Students in Grades 4 and 7 will soon be participating in the Foundation Skills Assessment (FSA). The FSA is a provincial assessment that gives schools and the District a snapshot of students’ skills in literacy and numeracy. It is part of the regular school program, and students are expected to participate unless the school determines that a student meets the criteria for exclusion.

- Who participates? All Grade 4 and Grade 7 students, unless the school determines otherwise.
- What does it assess? Students’ foundational skills in literacy and numeracy.
- Is it part of regular school? Yes. The FSA is a legislated provincial assessment and is part of students’ regular learning and assessment.
- What happens on FSA days? Students who are at school will be expected to participate. Alternate instruction or programming will not be provided during the assessment.
- Does it affect report cards? No. FSA results are not included on student report cards and are not part of the formal student evaluation process.
- Are students, teachers, or schools ranked? No. The District does not use FSA results to rank or compare students, teachers, or schools.
- Why is the information collected? Results help support student learning and assist the District with planning resources and annual budget decisions.
