Costume Parade, for elementary students only, on Halloween morning. The Costume Parade will go through the whole school and the Kindergarten class will lead it.
A middle school dance is being organized by leadership students (dance is 1 hour). An alternate activity is also being arranged (board games, etc.) and will also be supervised.
Students are encouraged to bring a food donation for the local food bank to the dance.
Costumes must be as follows: ….be respectful to self and others
…..free of any promotion of alcohol, drugs, gangs, hate, obscenity, profanity, racism, discrimination, sex, or violence (gory is part of Halloween so this requires discretion 🙁)
……no weapons or “fake” weapons allowed
…..masks okay during Costume Parade and dance but not outside, or in hallways or classrooms (unless a teacher permits in the classroom). If at any time a student is asked to remove their mask by a staff member, the expectation is they will remove it. As for clowns, not banned, however, the scary clown is discouraged.
Over the last week your child will have brought home an interim report as part of the reporting process. This informal reporting was for all students at Carlin: kindergarten to grade 8. Should you have any questions about your child’s learning please be sure to contact your child’s teacher.

Due to the incredible support of many local businesses, the South Shuswap Children’s Choir is now available to all students age 8 to 14 free of charge. The Choir Director is SD83 teacher Kate McKie, former director of the North Okanagan Shuswap Honour Choir. No auditions are necessary – all are welcome. The fee was $229 for the year. Now, with the support of local businesses, participating children will only need to take out the $10 Arts Council youth membership. Every student taking lessons through FACES is required to take out a yearly membership for $10 to access the grant funded programs. Rehearsals are held at FACES, next door to the school, on Wednesdays 3:00 to 4:30 and start on October 2nd. If you could get the word out, it would be much appreciated. A chance like this doesn’t come along often so we would love to see as many kids take advantage of a year of free choir.
Below are the letters Terry Fox sent to Adidas to ask for a donation of 26 pairs of shoes along with other information. Makes for a great read and discussion starter. This Thursday, Sept 26th, our school is proud to take part in this year’s Terry Fox Run for cancer research. Terry never gave up – and neither will we. We hope you will support us by donating at: http://www.terryfox.ca/CarlinElementaryMiddleSchool
Please ensure your child wears appropriate outdoor footwear to do the run.
